Update on Kids’ Halloween Events! Some Cancelled, Some Postponed, But Many Still Happening Wednesday Night

Oct. 31, 2012. Due to the cold and snowy weather, some Halloween events have been cancelled or postponed, however, many events are still happening tonight on Halloween. Read below for more information.

Cancelled: 

The Haunted Horn in the West has been cancelled due to the weather. 

Pumpkin Carving Contest and Trick or Treat at the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock has been cancelled. 

Postponed: 

Banner Elk Trunk or Treat has been postponed until Friday, Nov. 2. (More details below.)

Mable UMC in Zionville has postponed Trunk or Treating until Friday, Nov. 2, at 6 to 8 p.m. “Come out and trick or treat from trunk to trunk then enjoy a free hotdog and soda,” says one organizer on Facebook.

Children’s Halloween Celebration in Ashe Wednesday, October 31

The Ashe Farmers’ Market will hold its annual children’s Halloween celebration on Wednesday, October 31, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m in downtown West Jefferson. Along with West Jefferson First Baptist Church’s annual trunk-or-treat, ACFM will be open selling hot dogs, drinks, and taking pictures of the trunk-or-treaters.

Boone Mall Halloween Festivities, October 31

The Boone Mall hosts Halloween festivities on Wednesday, October 31. The evening features activities from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event features trick-or-treating, a “pumpkin house” and ASU’s “F Stop Photo Club” for Halloween photos. 12th Annual Downtown Boone Boo on Halloween, Oct. 31

The Downtown Boone Development Association sponsors this year’s downtown Boone Boo taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Starting at 4 p.m., crafts and activities take place at the Watauga County Public Library, and then at 4:30 p.m., a parade will leave to the Jones House. From 4:45 to 6 p.m., participating downtown Boone business will take part in trick-or-treating. (Balloons will mark participating businesses.) From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., a “Meet and Greet” happens with the ASU men’s basketball team for signed posters of the team  available to the first 100 fans. All ages are welcome.

Trick or Treating at Shoppes on the Parkway in Blowing Rock, Oct. 31

Trick or treating will take place at Shoppes on the Parkway in Blowing Rock from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. 

Trunk or Treating at Deep Gap FD on Oct. 31

Trunk or Treating will take place inside the Deep Gap Fire Department from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Organizers ask for you to bring candy and “help us treat the kids in our community.”

Trunk-or-Treat in Banner Elk, Postponed until Friday, Nov. 2

Originally scheduled for Halloween, the ninth annual Halloween Trunk or Treat in Banner Elk celebration has been postponed until Friday due to the weather. The event’s location has changed to the old Banner Elk Elementary School. Nancy Owen with the Town of Banner Elk said that there is no heat in the building, so bring a jacket to keep warm. 

The event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. This year’s event has a bigger haunted house, loads of candy, face painting and pet costume contest and more.

Prizes will be awarded for those who decorate their vehicle as ghost mobiles, for an all-aged costume contest judged according to age groups and pumpkin carvings.
