Oct. 18, 2013. The U.S. Forest Service continues to reopen facilities in the Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests in a safe and orderly manner.
In the Pisgah National Forest: The Pisgah Ranger District’s Sunburst Campground will reopen today.
In the Appalachian Ranger District, the Black Mountain/Briar Bottom Campground will reopen Saturday, Oct. 19.
In the Nantahala Ranger District, Nantahala National Forest, Cliffside recreation area has been reopened. The Van Hook recreation area will remain closed for the season.

Oct. 17, 2013. The U.S. Forest Service is working to reopen facilities in the national forests in North Carolina that were closed due to a lapse in federal government funding.
The Forest Service will reopen Uwharrie National Forest recreation facilities by the end of today.
Facilities in the Croatan National Forest will reopen by 12 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.
In the Nantahala Ranger District, Nantahala National Forest, all recreation sites are currently open except for:
Cliffside and Van Hook recreation areas; and
Moss Knob shooting range, which is closed due to construction.
In the Cheoah and Tusquitee Ranger Districts, Nantahala National Forest, fee sites (such as campgrounds, Tsali trails and shooting range) will reopen by the end of today. Facilities such as restrooms, boat ramps and trailheads will be open by noon tomorrow.
In the Pisgah National Forest:
All recreation sites will be reopened today on the Pisgah Ranger District except for Sunburst Campground, which will reopen with limited services as soon as possible.
All recreation sites on the Grandfather Ranger District are now open.
The Forest Service continues to open recreation facilities on the Appalachian Ranger District as possible.
