United Way Fund Established for NC Hurricane Matthew Relief, Text to Donate

During this time of disaster High Country United Way supports their North Carolina neighbors in need. To aid in this effort, the UW Helps NC Fund has been established to help United Way respond to immediate storm and flooding relief requests by organizations in affected communities and to continue to meet needs as they unfold throughout the coming weeks. Donations can be made by texting UWHELPSNC to 41444 or online at unitedwaync.org/donate. Donors have the option to designate their donation to directly support a United Way serving a county affected by flooding or to designate their donation to be used where it is most needed.

Those wishing to donate to the UW Helps NC Fund by check can mail their check to United Way of NC, 875 Walnut St., Suite 150, Cary, NC 27511 or to High Country United Way, PO Box 247, Boone, NC 28607. Checks should indicate UWHELPSNC and the county, if appropriate, in the memo line. Any checks received without a county indicated will be allocated to address the greatest needs.

Residents of The High Country who would like to volunteer to help with relief and recovery efforts can visit the NC Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) website at www.ncvoad.org and click on the membership tab to contact VOAD members directly or the volunteer opportunities tab to view current volunteer needs. Residents who would like to make non-monetary donations are being asked to donate non-perishable food, personal hygiene kits (e.g. face cloths, towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes) and clean-up kits (e.g. buckets, bleach, detergent, mops, brooms, sponges, towels) rather than clothing. NC VOAD members have asked that anyone wishing to host a collection drive please contact the agency you plan to donate to before beginning the drive to learn more about the specific needs of the area they are serving.
