Undercover Operation Nets Maiden Man With 119 Oxycodone Tablets at Tanger Outlets Lot

On March 4, narcotics detectives and criminal investigators from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office, along with strategic assistance from the Blowing Rock Police Department, conducted an undercover operation which led to the arrest of Elbert Lee McClain.

The operation took place in the parking lot of Shoppes on the Parkway in Blowing Rock. During the course of the operation, detectives seized 119 Oxycodone tablets.

McClain, 53, of Maiden, was charged with four counts of level 2 trafficking, which is more than 14 grams but less than 28 grams of opium or an opiate derivative, two counts of level 3 trafficking, which is more than 28 grams of opium or an opiate derivative, two counts of PWIMSD Schedule II, Sell/Deliver Schedule II, and Simple Possession of Schedule II.

McClain is a convicted felon who is also facing charges for sexual battery stemming from an incident which occurred on Feb. 16, 2014 in Catawba County, which he is still awaiting trial.

McClain is currently being held at the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office detention facility in lieu of a $250,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on April 28, 2015.
