“Today is an important opportunity to reflect on and honor the incredible sacrifices of the brave men and women who have served this country in our armed forces. I grew up in a strong military family, and – like many in North Carolina – I am the proud wife, daughter, sister and aunt of veterans. It is a privilege to represent the most military-friendly state in the nation that so many returning heroes call home.

“We cannot ever repay them for their service, but I am committed to doing everything possible to ensure our servicemembers have a smooth transition back into civilian life and receive the benefits they deserve. Our veterans shouldn’t have to fight for a job after fighting to defend this country, which is why I am advocating for a permanent extension of tax credits that encourage businesses to hire veterans. And we must continue working to eliminate the VA claims backlog so that our veterans who have sacrificed so much can receive their hard-earned benefits in a timely manner.”
