Two Rivers Community School to Host Second Annual “Two Rivers Live” at Center 45, Mar. 4

By Katie Benfield

On Saturday, Mar. 4, the Two Rivers Community School, a public charter school providing education for students from K-8th grade, will be holding its second annual “Two Rivers Live” which will take place at Center 45 from 6-10 p.m.

The event is a benefit for the school in order to raise money for the Mountain Adventure Program and other programs allowing students to experience curriculum through medians other than a classroom setting.

The Mountain Adventure Program is school partnership with Buffalo Cove Education Center where every grade participates in some form of outdoor programming. In grades K-2, the students will go on day hikes and learn about things such as ecology and environment. Students in 3rd grade or above will be able to go on overnight trips with Buffalo Cove and take what they are learning and talk about it in a different setting with outdoor features.

“Essentially, what the students are doing through these programs is going on these trips,” Ryan Robinson, the Development Director at Two Rivers Community School, said, “and turning what they’re learning in the classroom into hands-on, relevant activities.”

For example, the 8th graders at the school take trips to Charleston, S.C., and while they are learning about water within the classroom, they are able to then see where water ends up in Charleston in the estuaries and salt marshes.

“It’s unique for students to be able to take what they learn in the classroom and turn it into a reality,” Robinson said. “They can actually see what they are learning and not be limited to just reading or hearing about it.”

Two Rivers Live is the largest fundraiser that Two Rivers hosts, and the event last year was so successful that it only made sense to host it again.

“We have a lot of local businesses on board,” Robinson said. “They are helping to support the event by providing food, beverages, entertainment, stuff for the auctions and sponsorships. It’s a big event.”

Some of the sponsors and local businesses include Mast General Store, AMB, Appalachia Cookie Company, Stick Boy Bread Co., Tapp Room, Hatchet Coffee, First Security Insurance, Lazarus Design and Artemis Independent.

Tickets for the event will include dinner, one drink ticket, live music, dancing, a live auction and a silent auction. Along with all of this, the climbing wall will also be open for those who dare to climb. The live music will be performed by Nate Harris and DisFunktion.

Two Rivers Live is an adult only event for ages 21 and up.

“We are a school, so all of our events are usually kid friendly,” Robinson said. “But with this event, we wanted a kind of ‘parents night out’ feeling. It’s a fun and educational event for adults who need a night out in Boone for a good cause.”

Two Rivers Live is all about parents and community members being able to connect with each other and learn more about the school and what it is in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. It is geared towards both parents and community members in order to encourage everyone to learn about the school,  about our community and to raise money to provide opportunities for the students to experience all that they can.

“We really want to educate people about Two Rivers, provide a fun space and celebrate community,” Robinson said, “while also highlighting our sponsors, supporters, and the wonderful experiences Two Rivers’ staff provide students.”

Tickets are $40 for couples and $25 for singles.
