Two Recent Meth Arrests in Avery County

MethMay 13, 2014. Avery County Sheriff’s Office released information on two recent drug arrests: 

On May 5, officers with Avery County Sheriff’s Office served civil papers on Dobbins Road near Banner Elk.  At that location officers encountered Roger William Harmon.  Harmon was in possession of two pipes commonly used to smoke marijuana and a small bag of containing methamphetamine.  Harmon also had outstanding warrants for his arrest for criminal damage to property and misdemeanor child abuse. Mr. Harmon was arrested and a bond set at 3000.00

On May 8, officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near the Old Heaton Store.  The driver of the vehicle was 19-year-old Eli Johnson of Minneapolis.  Detective Casey Lee and his new K-9 partner “Kilo” responded to the scene.  Kilo alerted on the vehicle driven by Johnson indicating the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located a small bag of methamphetamine and other paraphernalia. Johnson was charged with possession of meth.
