The Watauga County Board of Education recently approved the selection of two local residents to leadership roles at the Margaret Gragg Education Center.
Following the Board of Education meeting last night, Superintendent Dr. Scott Elliott stated that he was very pleased to announce “the selection of two great folks to positions on our Central Services Leadership Team.”
Dr. Elliott included the following statement with the announcement.
“Mr. Garrett Price will serve in the role of Director of Communications and Public Relations. This position was created with the retirement of Marshall Ashcraft who served as our Public Information Officer. Mr. Price currently works as the education and general assignment reporter for the Watauga Democrat. He has not only covered our schools as a reporter, but also attended them as a student. He brings a wealth of relevant knowledge and a wide range of valuable experience to his new role with our schools.
Ms. Deborah Smith will serve as Executive Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education. This position became vacant with the resignation of Ms. Kerin Kiser. Ms. Smith currently works as the District Data Manager for WCS and Data Manager at Parkway School. She has also served previously at Watauga High School and Blowing Rock School.
I am very pleased that we are able to attract and keep high quality professionals like Mr. Price and Ms. Smith. They join an already strong team committed to making Watauga County Schools the best place to learn and work in North Carolina.”
