On the morning of June 27, the employees of Larry Hayes’ construction shop came to work to discover that their business had been broken into during the night and the thieves had carried out items from the shop and piled them into the parking lot in order to load them up and take them.

Mr. Webb was still standing near the parking area of the business when the first employee arrived, while his accomplice Mr. Clawson waited up the road in a nearby vehicle. After several witnesses spoke to Mr. Clawson, he left the area, leaving Mr. Webb behind.

Mr. Webb fled the scene on foot prior to law enforcement’s arrival, and later committed the felonious larceny of a vehicle, when he found one unlocked with the keys in it, parked at Beech Mountain Bee Keeping Supplies on Old Beech Mountain Road.

Detectives from the Avery County Sheriff’s Office were able to recover the stolen vehicle and Mr. Webb turned himself in to the sheriff’s office on July 15, and he was charged with both breaking and entering, as well as felonious larceny of a vehicle. Mr. Clawson was arrested for the breaking and entering on July 27.
