Aug. 22, 2014. On Thursday, Aug. 28, the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University will host a gala and silent auction to celebrate and honor those who help make their mission possible.
The gala, which runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m., will feature South African art that is currently in the exhibit, live music provided by The Mercury Dames, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.
Silent auction items for the night include a tour of California wine country, cabin rentals, a Wes Waugh painting, gift certificates to area restaurants, an Appalachian State University Mountaineer Mania package, massage packages, chiropractic packages, Deer Valley memberships, golf packages from the Blowing Rock Country Club, a signed lithograph from Eric Carle, hair and makeup packages and a series subscription to the 2014-15 Performing Arts Series at Appalachian State University. In all, items for the silent auction hold a combined value of more than $13,000.
Admission to the event is free for current Turchin Center donors and $25 for non-donors.

Current exhibitions at the Turchin Center include the 28th Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition, TWENTY: Contemporary Art from South America, South African History Under Apartheid: A Tribute to Nelson Mandela, Superficial Details: Althea Murphy Price, Lori Esposito: The Elaborate Ordinary, Travis Graves: Indivisible and the permanent collection.
