TubeFest, the annual benefit for the Green Valley Community Park, will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, at the canoe ramp of the park from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.

For $10 a tube for the approximately one-hour ride, each person receives a shuttle ride and tubing down the scenic New River.  Hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks and water will also be available for sale.

The park’s two permitted rafting companies are donating their services for this benefit.

Green Valley Park is a 501(c )3 tax-exempt, non-profit organization with a volunteer board of directors.  The park, which is located on Big Hill Road between the Green Valley School and Todd, is open to the public year round.  The picnic shelter, restrooms, and playground are on the upper level.  The multipurpose playing field, band shelter, paved walking track, and canoe ramp are on the lower level.  Unpaved walking trails link the areas of the park.

The park has benefited from state and private grants over the years and receives some money from Watauga County. The park paid off the mortgage for its land purchase thanks to generous private donations but borrowed money for its matching share of the state grant for the recent upgrade to the canoe ramp and for the paved walking trail.  The park pays a substantial amount of money to keep the grass cut and the restrooms cleaned but has no paid employees.  It is ideally a place where neighbors can become friends.

Come dressed for getting wet with water shoes and sunscreen and bring some friends!
