Toubab Krewe Hits the High Country on Halloween

By Madison Fisler

Oct. 23, 2012. Toubab Krewe will be hitting up the high country this Halloween. On Oct. 31, 2012, the Asheville-based band will be appearing at Legends in Boone hosted by the Stage Shows Council of the Appalachian State Popular Programming Society (APPS).

“Toubab Krewe is an organic, original band from Asheville that puts together the sounds of rock n roll, African music, jam sensibilities and international folk,” said Merrick Marquie, Stage Shows chairperson.

“It’s a truly original sound that Boone will love. We’ve gotten requests for this band for a couple years now due to their popularity across NC, and now they are here at Legends for a one of a kind Halloween bash.”

At this year’s Halloween show, there will also be a costume contest with prizes for the winners.

‘The costume contest will be an exciting addition with two tickets for Mimosa going to the winner. All of us at APPS are excited about this show, we can’t wait!” said Marquie.

“Toubab Krewe is a perennial favorite,” said Randy Kelly, manager of Legends. “We expect a big crowd every time they play.”

Tickets for the show are $10 for Appalachian students in advance and $12 at the door and for the public. Doors for the show open at 9:00 p.m. The show is BYOB with a six-pack limit with ID at the door.

From their website: “Some music is so original it seems snatched from the great, invisible substrata that runs below all human activity, a sound aching to be born without a flag or fixed allegiance – free, questing, overflowing with immediate, tangible life.  This is the music of Toubab Krewe.”
