2) Movie Viewings, Discussion Groups at Watauga Library

High Country Lifelong Learners in association with the Watauga County Public Library invite you to join us for a movie viewing of House Of Sand And Fog on July 13 from 2-4:30 p.m.

Reformed drug addict Kathy Nicolo (Jennifer Connelly) has her California coast house, which she inherited from her father, taken away by the county due to a misunderstanding about back taxes. The place is bought by Iranian immigrant Massoud Amir Behrani (Ben Kingsley), who intends to fix it up and sell it in order to provide a better life for his wife (Shohreh Aghdashloo) and son (Jonathan Ahdout). However, Kathy, desperate to get the house back, begins harassing Behrani so he will return it.

This film has an MPAA rating of R and an approximate run-time of 126 minutes.

The Watauga County Public Library’s movie discussion group invites you to join us for a viewing of Slaughterhouse-Five on July 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Director George Roy Hill’s 1972 adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut Jr’s novel Slaughterhouse-Five tells the story of Billy Pilgrim, who becomes ”unstuck in time” and experiences the events of his life in a seemingly random order, including his term of service during WWII as well as a period spent on the alien planet of Tralfamadore.

This film has an MPAA rating of R and an approximate run-time of 104 minutes.

3) ASU Poster Giveaway Dates for July

Appalachian State University athletics will hold 11 2015 football poster giveaway events throughout western North Carolina during the month of July.

In addition to receiving a complimentary football poster, fans will also have the opportunity to register for the Junior Mountaineer Kids Club and Football 101/201 and purchase 2015 Appalachian State football season tickets at each stop of the poster giveaway tour. Appalachian State athletics staff members will be in attendance at each stop and Mountaineer coaches and/or student-athletes will be on hand for pictures and autographs at selected events.

5) Peter Pedroni Memorial Charity Golf Tournament, Aug. 20

The Boone Golf Club will host the ninth annual Peter Pedroni Memorial Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, Aug. 20. Formerly known as the Casa Rustica Charity Golf Tournament, this year’s event will support the High Country Caregiver Foundation.

Teams of four will participate in this captain’s choice tournament, which will begin with a 2 p.m. shotgun start. Prizes include a $10,000 hole-in-one and many others.

Each $135 per player entry fee includes greens and cart fees, mulligans, raffles, goody bags, lunch and dinner.

Dinner is provided by Casa Rustica at the Boone Golf Club on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and is followed by a silent auction at 7 p.m. and raffles. Dinner includes prime rib, grilled corn and a baked potato bar.

Golf tournament sponsorship opportunities are still available and range from $100-$1,500, giving sponsors a wide variety of options for displaying their name and information.
