1) Step Up for Yellow Mountain Auction in Newland on June 27

Join the fifth annual Step Up For Yellow Mountain Auction on Saturday, June 27 and enjoy great deals on a variety of donated items.Mr. Woolly Worm Roy Krege will serve as auctioneer. Live music will be offered during the silent auction portion. Delicious homemade finger foods, iced tea and coffee will be available, with others available at a nominal cost. The auction begins at 4 p.m. at the Mountain Glen Clubhouse in Newland. Items up for auction include golf packages, tickets to the 2016 Nascar Sprint Cup race, an autographed Georgia Tech football helmet, sculptures, dining certificates, tickets to Dollywood and Dixie Stampede, event tickets to Pigeon Forge attractions, football tickets for ASU and NCSU, ski passes for Beech and Sugar, park hopper passes to Walt Disney World, an autographed ACC football helmet, an autographed Carolina Panthers football, a Las Vegas slot machine and more. All proceeds benefit the clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Yellow Mountain Enterprises.

2) Upcoming Events at the Art Cellar

“Hunt and Dalglish Origin and Inspirations in Clay:” Saturday Coffee Talk on June 13 will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature Michael Hunt and Naomi Dalglish of Bandana Pottery in Bakersville.

“Three Perspectives: Interpretations of Regional Vistas” will be on display  June 17-27 featuring the work of Scott Boyle, Tim Ford and Margaret Salisbury.

The first Wine Flight Night of the season will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. on June 26, celebrating fine arts and fine wine tastings and conversations.

3) Ranger Programs on the Blue Ridge Parkway

WED. JUNE 17: Cone Manor MP 294, Informal Upstairs Tour at Cone Manor. 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Second floor of the Cone Manor will be open for a do-it-yourself tour. Rangers will be on hand to answer questions.

SAT. JUNE 20: Cone Manor MP 294, Ranger-Led Upstairs Tour at Cone Manor. Reservations required, approximately 45 minutes long. 10 a.m., 11 a.m. 2 p.m., 3 p.m. Call 828-295-3782 or sign up at the NPS information desk at the manor house.

SAT. JUNE 20: Julian Price Campground Amphitheater, MP 296, Resistance is NOT Futile. The Civil War in western North Carolina was waged in a very unique way. While the war in western NC is not highly publicized, the tactics used and the outcomes of the engagements were crucial to the outcome of the conflict.

4) LET’S GO! Family Fun Zone Season Tickets Available

Families have a new option to catch all of the exciting action of Appalachian State University football at Kidd Brewer Stadium with the addition of the LET’S GO! Family Fun Zone.

The LET’S GO! Family Fun Zone is located on the south grass hill at Kidd Brewer Stadium. In addition to being a great location to watch the Mountaineers compete on the gridiron, the LET’S GO! Family Fun Zone will also will also feature special activities for kids at each game, including face tattoos, a balloon artist and much, much more.
