1) Lunch and Learn for Pet Nurturing Program at Crossnore School on June 11

Join the Crossnore School on Thursday, June 11 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Miracle Grounds Coffee Shop for a free lunch and learn event featuring the pet nurturing program. Meet and greet with resident therapist and pet nurturing director Katherine Harrell for an overview and tour of the campus equestrian center. This event includes lunch and a campus tour. 2) Ranger Programs on the Blue Ridge Parkway, June 13-14

SAT. JUNE 13: Upstairs Tours at Cone Manor, MP 294: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. Ranger-led tours of the second floor of the former home of Moses and Bertha Cone. Tour is approximately 45 minutes long and reservations are required. To reserve a tour, call 828-295-3782. Reservations are accepted beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday for the upcoming weekend only. No advance reservations.

SAT. JUNE 13: The Bear Facts, Julian Price Campground Amphitheater, MP 296: 7 p.m. DId you know a female bear will build a nest like a bird’s nest? Bears are fascinating and surprising creatures with many unexpected likes and habits. Come learn about some of them!

SAT. JUNE 13: Stream Gems at Linville Falls Campground Amphitheater, MP 316, 7 p.m. Come to an understanding of the different types of trout found along the Blue Ridge Parkway and explore the natural beauty within the streams. Approximately 45 minutes long.

SAT. JUNE 13: Coyotes in Our Midst, Crabtree Falls Campground Amphitheater, MP 340, 7 p.m. Coyotes are adaptable and resilient carnivores that have greatly expanded their range. Learn about this fascinating animal and what to do if you encounter one face-to-face. Approximately 45 minutes long.

4) Check Out “Watauga Wanderings” at BRAHM, 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Friday

Ever wonder what King Street looked like in the 1940s, during World War II?  Want to see photos of the historic homes and churches in Valle Crucis?  Thanks to the efforts of the Watauga County Historical Society‘s Digital Watauga Project, you now can!  In May 2014, the Watauga County Public Library consulted with the NC Digital Heritage Center to digitize the Historic Boone Collection as a “first wave” in the Watauga County Digital Project.  Find out more about this local history preservation project as the Watauga County Digital Project aims to make the rich history of Watauga County more widely known and easily accessible to the public. Suggested donation $5.
