Soprano Emily Arbour joins accompanist Susy Slingland for the next Saturdayafternoon concert at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock on September 30th at 4 pm in the nave of the church.

Miss Arbour is in her final semester at Appalachian State University, where she is studying for a Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance with Dr. Priscilla Porterfield.  She has an Associate’s degree in Music and Music Education from Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh. At ASU, Arbour performs with the University Singers, Chamber Singers, and in the Opera Workshop where she made her debut this past Spring as the First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote. She joined the Lake Junaluska Singers for their 2017 season under the direction of Mary Huff and Kathy Geyer McNeil, and is one of the newer members of the choir of St. Mary of the Hills.

Music for this performance includes four songs from Schumann’s Frauenliebe und Leben, selections from Copland’s Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson, Ravel’s Deux Epigrammes de Clement, Mendelssohn’s O for the Wings of a Dove, and arias from Weber’s Der Freischutz and Hermman’s Wuthering Heights.

St.Mary of the Hills sponsors Saturday afternoon recitals by faculty and students from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University each month from May through October as an offering to the larger community. No admission fee is charged. The church is located on Main Street in Blowing Rock.  For more information, please call the church office at (828) 295-7323 or follow us on Facebook at MusicfromStMaryoftheHills.
