BRAHM Presents Several Upcoming Programs Starting Tomorrow

Wednesday, Sep. 13, 2:30-3:30 p.m. :

The Greenbriar Ghost: The Unquiet Grave and the Facts Behind the Legend

Wednesday, September 13, 2017
2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Greenbrier County, West Virginia – 1897. A man is convicted of murdering his wife based on the testimony of her ghost. New York Times bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb thoroughly researched this true story, heretofore told as a folktale. Using a century of documents, including birth certificates, death certificates, census records, and newspaper articles, she pieced together a chronicle of events. Told from the point of view of the young African American attorney who second-chaired the defense, The Unquiet Grave brings to life the family, the lawyers, and the townspeople caught up in the tragedy.

Books will be available for purchase and to have signed. The event is free with paid admission to the museum.

Thursday, Sep. 14, 6-7 p.m. :

Romare Bearden: My Friend

Thursday, September 14, 2017
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Join curator Jerald Melberg as he shares stories and anecdotes about his friend Romare Bearden. Melberg knew Bearden during the last 15 years or so of his life, and in many ways, Bearden was like a grandfather to him. Of Bearden, Melberg says: “He was intimidatingly bright and knew well his status as an American artist although he never let it (or his ego) get in his way. He simply went to the studio every day and did what he did: make incredible, important art.”

Saturday, Sep. 16, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. :

The South in Color: A Visual Journal –
A book-signing with Bill Ferris

Saturday, September 16, 2017
11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Since the moment William Ferris’s parents gave their twelve-year-old son a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera for Christmas in 1954, Ferris passionately began to photograph his world. He has never stopped. The sixties and seventies were a particularly significant period for Ferris as he became a pathbreaking documentarian of the American South.
This event is complimentary with museum admission.
