Vintage Valle Music Greets the High Country, 8/20

“And, the days dwindle down to a precious few….”  It’s not quite September; however, we are in “back-to-school” mode as we approach our closing Vintage Valle Music event of 2017.  What a great summer it’s been, and there’s more great music to come.  On Sunday, August 20th, we feature three local and quite different musical combos, The Michael Salley BandThe Threshold Singers, and Amantha  Mill.  Music kicks off at 4 p.m. and won’t slow down until 6 p.m., just in time for you to get home for supper.  As always, there’s no charge for this afternoon of community music.  However, in the spirit of neighborliness, if you’d like to bring some classroom supplies to share with Valle Crucis and Cove Creek Schools, we will be most appreciative.

First on the bill, The Michael Salley Band will get your heart pumping with a variety of summer afternoon favorites from patriotic to sentimental.  Michael Salley, a graduate of ASU’s School of Music, has gathered a cadre of talented local musicians who can’t get enough of good music and are eager to share their love and talents with their fortunate neighbors.  What a delight to find such a joyful sound, a real brass band, just around the next curve

Last year The Threshold Singers left us on our feet, applauding and calling for more.  Now, for our August finale, this versatile group is back for that encore with a year of performances under their talented belts.  The Threshold Singers comprise a volunteer choir of local folks who just like to get together to sing and play instruments suitable for their moods and their talents.  Audiences are always in for a treat when asked to sing along with well-known and much-loved favorites.

Bringing our August program and our 6th summer of music to an appropriate close is one of the High Country’s top bluegrass bands, Amantha Mill.  Local folks know what to expect, newbies are pleasantly surprised, and all are delightfully thrilled at the polished sound mixed with the down-home friendliness of this favorite group as they share bluegrass, country, and gospel tunes sure to cheer all tastes.

All performers generously share their talents with our community, and there’s no admission charge, no passing the hat, no collection basket at the exit.  As is the custom at Vintage Valle Music, this month we are collecting classroom supplies for our Western Watauga County public schools.  Suggested items include facial tissues, hand sanitizer, paper towels, liquid hand soap, disinfectant wipes, adhesive bandages, zipper-locking bags (gallon and sandwich sizes), and disposable cups, plates, and napkins.

Baird’s Creek Presbyterian Church is located at 2147 NC Hwy 194 South, Vilas NC  28692.  That’s 2 miles west of 194’s intersection with US 321 in Vilas, or, if you’re coming from south of our church, it’s just 2 miles north of Valle Crucis’ Original Mast General Store.

Custom Charleston Forge Community Table to be Installed in New Starbucks

BOONE, NC. Charleston Forge is proud to announce that it has just installed one of its signature community tables in the soon-to-open Starbucks Store at 1700 Blowing Rock Road (Hwy 321) in Boone. The Boone location is the first standalone Starbucks store in the North Carolina High Country and is scheduled to open August 17.

The dining height community table measures 170” x 36” (Approx. 14-ft x 3-ft) and is a custom version of the community tables that the Boone furniture manufacturer has been building for Starbucks since late 2014. Community tables are traditionally long, relatively narrow tables designed to seat 6 to 10 people or more, depending on their size. Starbucks initially approached Charleston Forge about building furniture for them in April
2013. The multinational company was looking for a high quality, American-made furniture manufacturer. Central to Starbucks’ mission statement is the concept of responsible sourcing of its products, including everything from edibles to store furnishings.

“Sourcing managers with the Starbucks Global Store Development team are always looking for high-quality, handmade furniture,” Starbucks wrote in an article on its website at the time about its collaboration with
Charleston Forge. The tables built by Charleston Forge can be found in stores across the US. Founded by Art and Susan Barber in Boone in 1984, Charleston Forge is known for its high-quality, handmade steel furniture. It has a product line of more than 300 items, including dining and occasional tables, consoles, chairs, bar stools, baker’s racks, benches, and beds, ranging in style from traditional to contemporary. All of the company’s products are built by hand in the company’s Boone, North Carolina factory and shipped to retailers and interior designers around the US.
