1) Prescription and OTC Drug Take-Back Day on May 16 at Foscoe FD, Food Lion Stores

High Country Operation Medicine Cabinet will host a drug take-back day on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Foscoe Fire Department and at Food Lion locations in Boone, Blowing Rock and Deep Gap. Volunteers from the Seven Devils Public Safety Committee will collect all prescription and over-the-counter medications returned with no questions asked. Call 828-264-5305 for more information.

2) Crestwood Hosts “Party with a Purpose” to Support Children’s Council on Sunday

The Inn at Crestwood, 3236 Shulls Mill Road, will host “Party with a Purpose” on Sunday, May 17 from 3-5 p.m. to support the Children’s Council of Watauga County. The event will feature local food, music and a mix of silent and live auctions. Auction items will include Disney World tickets, ASU game packages, photography sessions, car care kits, health and wellness baskets, spa certificates, pet products, adventure packages, dance lessons and more. 3) ASU Biology Spring Plant Sale This Weekend

The Biology Department at Appalachian State University is hosting a plant sale this weekend. Choose from a healthy diversity of tropicals and succulents, some perennials, vegetables, herbs and three dozen varieties of toatoes, all grown by ASU students and community volunteers. Competitive prices start at just $1. Proceeds support all greenhouse education efforts. The sale will be taking place at the Biology Greenhouse, 211 Dale Street next to the State Farm parking lot, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. 4) Tai Chi at the Senior Center Begins May 28

Two 12-week sessions of Tai Chi (Beginner and Intermediate) will begin on Thursday, May 28, at the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center, instructed by Tim Winecoff.  The intermediate class will be held on Thursday afternoons from 4:30-5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a 5:30-6:30 p.m. class for beginner students. The deadline for registration is 4:30 p.m. on the first day of class.  Any age may join but priority will be given to persons age 60 and older. The cost is $50 per person for either 12-week series.  The Senior Center is located in the Human Services Building at 132 Poplar Grove Connector in Boone.  Call the center at 828-265-8090 with any questions.
