Public Notice: Mountain Family Medicine to Close on July 7

Public Notice:

Mountain Family Medicine announces the closing of its medical practice on July 7, 2017 and will no longer see patients after that date. Mountain Family Medicine will begin immediately to transfer patient medical records to other physicians upon patient request. Patients should contact Mountain Family Medicine, 828.262.1800, 178 Hwy 105 EXT, Boone, NC 28607 as soon as possible to make arrangements for the forwarding of their medical records to another physician of their choice. If you do not know another physician, you may contact the North Carolina Medical Society or visit the North Carolina Medical Board website at www.ncmedboard.org for resources.

Artists Mary Dobbins and Tonya Bottomley at Carlton Gallery

Carlton Gallery’s 35th Spring Group Exhibition with Florals, Still Lifes and Interiors is in full swing with a painting demonstration by Mary Dobbin and meet the artist, Tonya Bottomley. These events celebrate the Tour de Art which begins its 9 season on June 24, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Dobbin’s demonstration is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., while Bottomley will greet gallery patrons and visitors from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Tour de Art is a coalition of galleries and artists’ private studios open on the fourth Saturday of each month – June through November. The purpose of the Tour de Art is to support the talented artisans living and working in the area whose art covers many media. Tour maps are available at Carlton Gallery, participating venues and look for the bright yellow Tour de Art signs.

The 35th Spring Group Exhibition displays paintings by Dottie Leatherwood and Debbie Arnold.

Visit Carlton Gallery on Saturday, June 24, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to view the painting demonstration by Mary Dobbin from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and meet artist Tonya Bottomley who plans to discuss her abstract art from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Florals, Still Lifes and Interiors Exhibition by Mary Dobbin, Connie Winters, Gina Strumpf and Helen Farson can be viewed through July 15.

The gallery is located 10 miles south of Boone; 7 miles from Blowing Rock and 7 to 8 miles from Linville and Banner Elk on N.C. 105 south in the Grandfather Mountain Community near Seven Devils. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. To reserve a tour: call 828-295-3782 or sign up at the NPS information desk at the Manor House. Reservations are accepted beginning at 10:00am Friday for the upcoming weekend only. No advance reservations, please.

Abingdon Farmers’ Market’s 3rd Annual Berry Fest, June 24

Abingdon, V.A.—The Abingdon Farmers Market will hold its third annual Berry Festival Saturday, June 24th. With free berry tastings, a best dessert competition, live music and a food demonstration, the festival is a time to celebrate the start of berry season in Southwest Virginia and the true beginning of summer. The Abingdon Farmer’s market opens at 8:00am Saturday, with Berry Festival events kicking off at 9:00am.

Between 9:00am and 1:00pm, vendors will be offering free samples of many different types of berries, including blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries and more, all locally grown.

There will also be a “Berry Best Dessert” contest held on the lawn underneath the white tent. After having a taste, customers may cast their vote for the “Berry Best Dessert.” There will be approximately five growers entered into the contest, and desserts will be available for sampling. This event will begin at 9am and prizes will be awarded at 12:30.

The Berry Festival also includes a food demonstration by Andrea Wann with the Virginia Cooperative extension. She will be handing out free tastings and recipes from 8am-1pm. Andrea will also be educating individuals on food prep and storage.

The Abingdon Farmers Market will be having its regular market during this event. Over 45 vendors will be selling all local produce, meats and crafts from 8am to 1pm. The Music at the Market program will also be hosting local musician “Jamie Collins” from 9am-12pm.

The Abingdon Farmers Market is sponsored by Berry Home Centers, The Harvest Table Restaurant, The Town of Abingdon and Iron Mountain Crossfit.
