Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild to Hold Monthly Meeting on Thursday, April 6

The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m. The guild will meet in the conference room on the second floor of the Senior Center on the Poplar Grove Connector in Boone.  We are pleased to have Cath Evans return and present another wonderful and informative  program. She will be discussing rotary cutters and various types of rulers. Please make note of the types and lengths of these items you have and bring them or the information with you to the meeting. She will tell the guild their advantages or disadvantages. You may discover you have more things than you need or not the correct ones. Some of the members have participated in an “ugly fat quarter” challenge and the guild will see the results of their work. Don’t forget to bring your quilts for show and tell. Beech Mountain to Host 10th Annual A Cool 5 Weekend June 16-18 

On June 16th – June 18th, the Town of Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting its 10th annual Cool 5 Weekend. On Friday at Buckeye Recreation Center (5 – 7 p.m.) A Benefit Dinner will start the weekend off, allowing participants and visitors to eat dinner provided by local restaurants. This pre-celebration is free for racers, but $7.00 for non-racers. On Saturday June 17th, the A Cool 5 race begins at 8 a.m. and involves a 5 mile run ($25.00), 1.5 mile fun run/walk ($20.00) and 1.5 mile walk and wag ($20.00) for man’s best friend; furthermore, the event provides a unique opportunity for participants and families to race along the slope of Beech Mountain at 5,400 feet giving a spectacular view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Downtown Boone Easter EGG-Stravaganza Taking Place on Sat., Apr. 8

The Downtown Boone Development Association (DBDA), the Jones House Cultural and Community Center, and the Watauga County Public Library are delighted to announce the 16th annual downtown Boone Easter Egg-stravaganza. This year’s Egg-stravaganza will take place on Saturday, April 8 starting at the Watauga County Public Library at 2:00 p.m. with entertainment and arts & crafts. The Easter Bunny and Mayor Brantz will lead an Easter “parade” to the Jones House just before 2:30 p.m.

Activities at the Jones House will include Easter egg hunts, games, and activities for all ages. Easter egg hunts will be divided into three age groups; 0 – 3 years old, 4 – 6 years old, and 7 – up with each group having multiple chances of finding a golden egg which children may redeem for an Easter basket prize.

During the Easter egg hunts, visit with special guests, such as Twist the Balloon Man, representatives from the Children’s Council, and other surprise guests. Enjoy games with prizes, give-a-ways, and more until 4:00 pm at the Jones House.

Parking enforcement in downtown will stop at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, to assist with activities at the Watauga County Public Library and the Jones House Cultural and Community Center.

In the event of inclement weather a decision about the day’s activities will be posted on the downtownboonenc.com website by 10 a.m. the morning of the event. We hope you can join us for a day of spring fun in downtown Boone, and remember your Easter basket!

Watauga County Humane Society Pet Adoptions at Tractor Supply Co. on Saturday

The Tractor Supply Company store in Boone at 2221 Old 421 S will host a pet adoption event on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

Families looking to add a pet to their home are encouraged to stop by the store and interact with the dogs and cats that are available for adoption. Participating adoption groups include:

  • Watauga County Humane Society
    • On site 1:00pm to 3:00pm

“Pet adoption days are exciting at Tractor Supply,” said Christy Owens, manager of the Boone Tractor Supply store. “Not only do we get to help families take home a great pet, but we also get to support our community adoption partners who are working hard to care for homeless dogs and cats.”

Saturday’s adoption event will coincide with Tractor Supply’s Unleash the Savings special on select pet products. For new pet owners, Tractor Supply is a one-stop shop where customers can choose from a comprehensive selection of products for dogs and cats, including items necessary for their health, care, growth and containment.
