Annual Easter Egg Hunt to Take Place in Banner Elk on Sat., Apr. 8

Mark your calendars for fun in Banner Elk on Saturday, April 8th at the Annual Easter Egg Hunt.  The Egg Hunt will be held on the green at the Historic Banner Elk School. There will be music provided by Welter Entertainment, Meet the Easter Bunny and face painting starting at 10:30am

The Banner Elk Cafe will have egg coloring from 9:30am to 10:30 and the Banner Elk Book Exchange will have Story Time at 10:30am.

Working Writers Workshop Series Brings Darnell Arnoult to Sparta, May 12-13

Darnell Arnoult, award-winning poet and novelist, will appear at the Alleghany County Public Library in Sparta, NC.,May 13, from 3-5 pm. The Library is now in its new location, 115 Atwood Street, adjacent to the Sparta campus of Wilkes Community College. Ms Arnoult will read from her recently published collection, GALAXIE WAGON, and also give short samples of her work in progress, followed by interview, Q&A and book signing. Books will be available for sale. Event is free and open to the public. For more information: 336-372-5573.

Arnoult will also teach a poetry workshop on Friday, May 12, 9am to noon, and a writer workshop on Saturday, May 13, 9am to noon. Workshops are free and open to the public. Donations will fund future writing programs.  Registration is recommended.  workshops@2REDSagency.com

 

Caldwell Arts Council Calls for Artists and Crafters for the Hues and Brews

Lenoir, NC

The Caldwell Arts Council is now accepting applications from artists and crafters to participate in the Hues and Brews Artist & Craft Beer Celebration, Saturday, May 20thThis will be a street festival that will run from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and will be located along Main Street in Historic Downtown Lenoir, NC. 

Artist booths are $30 for 10×10, $60 for 10×20, and all artist and craft work will be juried for acceptance.

All booth sites are accessible, prime locations with access to electricity at additional cost. There will be food vendors, artists and brewery booths mingled together along Main Street. Live music and children’s activities will also be on site for the whole family to enjoy.

Free Advance Care Planning Workshop at Watauga Medical Center, Apr. 8

Boone, NC (March 17, 2017) – In honor of National Healthcare Decision Day, Appalachian Regional Healthcare System will partner with the Watauga County Bar Association to offer a free Advance Care Planning Workshop on April 8, 2017 in the Watauga Medical Center auditorium from 10 am to 1 pm.

This workshop will provide information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and health care providers and to execute written advance directives (Health Care Power of Attorney and living will) in accordance with North Carolina state laws.
Attorneys and healthcare professionals will be available to answer questions and notarize the completed advance directives. Additionally, Carolina Donor Services will be on-site to provide attendees with an opportunity to become organ donors.  
Participants should bring their driver’s license or another form of photo identification, as well as the name, address and telephone number for the person they wish to designate as healthcare power of attorney.
