Republican Women to Meet Jan. 25 at Sagebrush

The Watauga County Republican Women’s Club (WCRWC) will have its next monthly meeting onWednesday, January 25th at the Sagebrush Steakhouse in Boone, NC. The meeting will begin at noon. All interested in furthering the Republican cause in The High Country are welcome to attend and are invited to join. Call 828-295-9020 for more information. The WCRWC meets the last Wednesday of each month. There will be no meeting if Watauga County schools are closed due to weather.

7:30-Closing Live Music: Dane Page. Dane Page has been playing music professionally for 4 years in bars/coffee shops/breweries and wherever else in the Charlotte and Boone area, but calls the Carolina Piedmont his home. He started playing guitar in 7th grade wanting to be Jimmy Page, and still does, but music has lead him to many different genres of music, and most recently, songwriting. His songwriting influences range from modern song writers (Amos Lee, Josh Ritter, Gregory Alan Isakov, Justin Townes Earle) to classic song writers (Merle Haggard, Hall & Oates, Woody Guthrie, Paul Simon).

7:30pm-Closing Live Music: Lucky Strikes. From classic jazz standards made popular today by artists such as Diana Krall and Tony Bennett, to timeless hits from the 50s, 60s and 70s, The Lucky Strikes’ musical repertoire spans over four decades.

7:30-Closing Live Music: Jacob Johnson Band. Hailing from the humble town of Granite Falls, North Carolina, The Jacob Johnson Band is a three-piece blues experience suited for a stadium, able to be professionally condensed to the size of your local bar or any place where live music can be found. With a rock steady rhythm section as his foundation, Jacob Johnson’s leads soar into the stratosphere with sonic influences from Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King, and many more. With vocals ranging from the howls of a hurt man, to the love struck crooning of Elvis, everyone will find the blues lover in themselves.

Up to 30 high-potential small businesses from across WNC will be accepted; Deadline to apply is January 29
Starting a business is hard work. Scaling a business is equally hard, and often requires different strategy and skills than used in the startup phase. The ScaleUp WNC program works with existing entrepreneurs and small businesses owners from across WNC that have demonstrated initial success and have potential for significant growth.
Using a cohort based approach, with 15 businesses accepted into each group, ScaleUp WNC provides mentorship, management training, growth capital connections and other critical resources to help companies achieve sustained growth and contribute to the small business-led economic development of our WNC communities.

TACTalks: Why is Everyman Jack Important to All of Us?

Join renowned author/Illustrator Gail Haley to discuss “Jack” as an archetype, and how far reaching his importance is to the English speaking World. Learn how his image as Jack and the Bean Tree came down to us through Vikings who intermarried with English and Scottish women, and through them to modern English and American audiences. Twenty-four of these stories were preserved in the oral tradition of the mountains for over two hundred years.

Free for Members, $5 for Non-members

January Old Time Dance

Come in out of the winter and shake a leg with the fun and comradery of old-time dance: circles, squares, and lines! Absolutely NO experience is necessary and people of all ages are welcome. Dance instructions will be given by experienced callers and live music will be provided by Strictly Strings!

Admission is $5 per person, free for children 12 and under.
