2016 Beech Mountain Holiday Market – Accepting Applications

Presented by Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation Department

Beech Mountain, NC, Aug 16, 2016 – On Saturday, November 26th Beech Mountain Parks and Recreation will host its 10th annual Holiday Market here at the Buckeye Recreation Center from 10am-5pm. This indoor market is a welcome alternative to busy shopping centers during the holiday season – featuring unique goods, handmade crafts, and fine arts. We are currently accepting vendor applications for this event. Spaces are only $30 for a 10×10′ area. Applications and payment must be received before Monday, Nov. 14 to participate in the Market.

Meet Your Maker: Open Studios + Craft Demonstrations

Grovewood Gallery in Asheville

Saturday, October 8 (11am – 4pm)

In celebration of American Craft Week, Grovewood Gallery in Asheville will connect local makers with the public on Saturday, October 8. Visitors will have the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and tour the artist studios on the Grovewood grounds, meet makers who work in a variety of media, and browse original works of art ranging from jewelry to pottery to sculpture. Grovewood will also host craft demonstrations by local artists Josh Cote (intricately woven wire sculptures) and Matt Tommey (sculptural art baskets).

Carolina Farm Credit Awards $16,000 in Scholarships

STATESVILLE, NC – Vance C. Dalton, Jr., CEO of Carolina Farm Credit, announces that Carolina Farm Credit awarded scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each to four students at North Carolina State University and four students at North Carolina A&T University for the 2016-2017 academic school year. “We recognize the importance of further education and hope that these scholarships will help to enable these young adults to become the leaders of tomorrow,” said Dalton.

The recipients of the 2016-2017 N.C. A&T University-Carolina Farm Credit Scholarships are highlighted below:

Caleb Bryson is a freshman at N.C. A&T University majoring in pre-vet animal science. He is from Greensboro, N.C. and is the son of Richard and Kristi Bryson. Caleb is on the dean’s list, and hopes to spread his love and knowledge of animals to others.

Joseph Groce is currently attending N.C. A&T University majoring in animal husbandry. He is from Lexington, N.C. and is the son of Greg and Helen Groce. After graduation, Joseph plans on pursuing a career as an agriculture extension agent.

Lauren Blackwell is a sophomore at N.C. A&T University majoring in animal science and laboratory animal science. She is from Guilford County and is the daughter of James and Hope Blackwell. After earning her degree from N.C. A&T, Lauren would like to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Christina Virginia Bradshaw is a senior at N.C. A&T University majoring in animal science. She is the daughter of Florence Bradshaw and Martin Jones. After graduation, Christina hopes to further her education and attend veterinary school.

The recipients of the 2016-2017 North Carolina State University-Carolina Farm Credit Scholarships are highlighted below:

Melanie Fishel is a freshman at N.C. State University majoring in agricultural business management. She is from Kernersville, N.C. and is the daughter of Neil and Karen Fishel. After graduation, Melanie hopes to attend law school to pursue Agriculture Law.

Olin Austin is a sophomore at N.C. State University majoring in agricultural business management. He is from Union County and is the son of Phillip and Cheryl Austin. After earning his degree from N.C. State, Olin would like to return to his family farm and help grow their farm operation.

Nicole Mauldin is a junior at N.C. State University majoring in animal science and minoring in poultry science and feed milling. She is from China Grove, N.C. and is the daughter of Todd and Danielle Mauldin. After graduation, Nicole hopes to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

McKayla Newsome is a senior at N.C. State University majoring in animal science. She is from King, N.C. and is the daughter of Brad and Vickie Newsome. After graduation, McKayla would like to work in the agriculture industry in a management capacity.

Carolina Farm Credit provides scholarships through the College of Ag and Life Sciences (CALS) at North Carolina State University (NCSU) and the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (SAES) at North Carolina A&T University. Students interested in applying for these scholarships should contact the academic affairs offices at these colleges. In order to be considered, students must have a major in CALS at N.C. State University or SAES at N.C. A&T University and must complete a financial aid application.
