Get Lost for A Cause with Western Youth Network. Come Support WYN and all our local kids as they prepare to head back to school! Lost Province will be donating a portion of proceeds from the day to WYN. WYN recognizes a simple truth—growing up is hard, especially during those pivotal years from 5th through 10th grade. WYN invests in the lives of children and youth in order to build a better future and a stronger community for the High Country. We truly are “raising a community” and we do this by providing unique and quality programming that offers individualized support to over 200 children and youth each year in our Mentoring and After School Initiatives alone.

Wednesday August 17

½ Off Beer and Wine Specials.

7pm-9pm Trivia Night: Beginning at 7pm, Lost Province will be hosting Trivia Night. Compete on your own or on a team! The competition gets started at 7pm so come a little early for a pizza and a pint and get your seat!

Thursday August 18

College Night and $3.00 Thursday-$3.00 pints on all Lost Province brewed beers (except high gravity).

7:30pm-10:30pm Live music: Dane Page. Dane Page has been playing music professionally for 4 years in bars/coffee shops/breweries and wherever else in the Charlotte and Boone area, but calls the Carolina Piedmont his home. He started playing guitar in 7th grade wanting to be Jimmy Page, and still does, but music has lead him to many different genres of music, and most recently, songwriting. His songwriting influences range from modern song writers (Amos Lee, Josh Ritter, Gregory Alan Isakov, Justin Townes Earle) to classic song writers (Merle Haggard, Hall & Oates, Woody Guthrie, Paul Simon)

Friday August 19

7:30pm-Closing Live Music: Strictly Strings. Strictly Strings is a youth band of five very talented young musicians – Anissa Burnett, Kathleen Burnett, Willow Dillon, Caleb Coatney, Liam Purcell, plus their instructor, Cecil Gurganus. They are members of the Junior Appalachian Musicians(JAM) program in Boone, North Carolina. These talented musicians have really been making a name for themselves playing Old-time and Bluegrass music delivering outstanding, lively performances. They play a variety of instruments including mandolin, banjo and fiddle.

Saturday August 20

8:30pm-Closing Live Music: Sycamore Bones. Sycamore Bones deliver authentic, heartfelt lyrics backed by barebones instrumentation and homespun harmonies. Sycamore bones is a folk trio that is made up of Singer/songwriter Cory Kinal, Singer/Songwriter Andrew Massey, and Vocalist Michele Ervin. Besides performing their own material, they also cover songs from folk music greats John Prine and Bob Dylan and more recent bands, like the White Stripes.

Civil War Historian Michael Hardy will give a free presentation with his family in period dress on the Civil War in the Appalachian Mountains.  Local incidents in Watauga and Avery Counties will be emphasized.  He is the author of 20 books including Capitols of the ConfederacyNorth Carolina in the Civil War, and Watauga County, North Carolina, in the Civil War among many others.

SNIPS Craft Sale at Mast Store Annex Sept. 3

SNIPS Craft Sale at the Mast Store Annex in Valle Crucis.  There will be an array of handmade items including jewelry, coasters and trivets, dog and cat toys, dog bandanas, magnets, lavender sachets, notecards, candles and much more!  All proceeds from the sales benefit the public low-cost spay and neuter programs of the WHS SNIPS (Spay Neuter is a Positive Solution).  Sept 3rd from 11am to 3pm.

Soil and Water Board to Meet Aug. 17

The Watauga Soil and Water Conservation District Board” will hold its regular Board meeting Wednesday August 17, 2016 at 8:00 am at the Soil & Water Office located at 971 West King Street, Boone NC 28607.The public is invited to attend.
