Beginning Monday, March 7, 2016, and continuing through the remainder of the ski season, March Madness specials will be in effect. During this time frame, the ski resort is offering 25% off lift tickets and 25% off ski/snowboard rentals seven days a week.

In addition to great skiing conditions, our live music scene provides the best Après-ski experience in the region!  All shows are FREE and all ages are welcome!

Shelby Ray Moore

Back by popular demand, Shelby Rae Moore returns to the Beech Mountain Brewing Co.  Join us Friday, March 4th, at 6 p.m.  Shelby Rae Moore is an up-and-coming vocalist from Hickory, NC, who is currently making her mark in the high country.  Shelby is deemed as one of the best female vocalists in the area.

The Broadcast

Described by audiences as a modern day “Grace Slick meets Led Zeppelin”, Asheville NC’s The Broadcast quickly propelled themselves into the live music spotlight with their award winning independently released debut album “Dodge the Arrow” which has sold nearly 10,000 copies to date.

Led by female powerhouse Caitlin Krisko, The Broadcast is breaking new ground across the country with their infectious energy and authentic approach to rock & roll. Drawing much of their sound from 70s classic rock n roll, this dynamic ensemble is known for their explosive live performances.

Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats

Andrew Scotchie & The River Rats formed in Asheville NC around early 2011 as a street busking project. Jumpstarted from several songs written by Asheville NC native, Andrew Scotchie, The River Rats have evolved from a stripped down guitar/harmonica duo to 5 piece rock soul and blues band with a fiery live show and a horn section to top it all off.

Andrew and the Rats have been sharing the stage with national acts such as Sonny Landreth, Big Sams Funky Nation and Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds and been featured at staple music festivals such as Bristol Rythym and Roots, Columbia Blues Festival, Awendawe Green and Asheville Barnaroo.

Nappy Roots

Nappy Roots entered the music scene in 1998 and they have remained real, humble, talented guys with inherent, undeniable southern swagger. After the international success of their album Watermelon, Chicken, & Grits, selling over 3 million albums, the members of Nappy Roots were flying high while still acutely aware of how far it could be to the bottom should they fall. It is that practical and genuine presence of mind that helped them sustain touring as a group these last ten years. Building a vastly loyal fan-base nationwide, fans and friends can be used interchangeably when referring to their army of followers.

By far one of the most underrated Hip-Hop acts to have emerged over the past few years, their accomplishments and the milestones they’ve reached are the stuff of often-referenced Hip-Hop legacies. But theirs remains a legacy that isn’t celebrated nearly as much as it should be… at least not by the “industry.” The fans, on the other hand, recognize just what sets Nappy Roots apart: consistency. In addition to their three independent releases – The Humdinger and Pursuit Of Nappyness, and Nappy Dot Org released in 2008, 2010, and 2011 respectively- Nappy Roots has provided their fans with new music every year since 2004, amassing a total of no less than 11 full-length albums and mixtapes.

The New Opportunity School for Women (NOSW) at Lees-McRae College is accepting applications for its three-week residential summer program that helps low-income women gain the skills and confidence to turn their lives around. This summer’s session will be held from May 29 – June 18.

“Our mission is to help women improve their personal, educational and financial circumstances,” said Jennie Harpold, director of the NOSW at Lees-McRae. “Women who would benefit from our program are those who really want to improve their situation, but need access to additional resources. We supply the tools they need to fulfill their potential.”

Founded in 1987 in Berea, Ky., the New Opportunity School for Women opened an expansion site at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk in 2005. The program at Lees-McRae has graduated more than 110 women.

The three-week residential session includes instruction in creative writing, public speaking, interviewing and Appalachian literature. Experienced volunteer instructors also teach basic accounting, computer and resume writing skills and how to navigate the college application process. Internships in the local community provide the women with the opportunity to further explore career paths. Women participating in the program attend cultural events, such as concerts, a summer theatre production, and a series of lectures related to local Appalachian culture.

There is no cost to the students attending this program, thanks to generous help from individual donors, local churches and agencies that support women’s initiatives. Assistance with childcare costs and travel costs are available. Applicants should have or be working toward a GED or high school diploma, be of low-income, and have an interest in a new career and/or higher education.
