By Katelyn Jenkins

Tickets are now on sale for the BeanStalk Community Theatre’s production of “High School Musical” which will be performed in the Ross Auditorium of Watauga High School at 7 p.m. on July 27 and 28. The final performance will be on July 29 at 2 p.m.

High School Musical is a popular Disney Channel movie filled with sing-along songs and energetic dance routines that will have the whole family on their feet!

It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations and look forward to the new year. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. They cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical that is being led by Ms. Darbus. Although many students resent the threat posed to the “status quo,” Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

The plot of the play will remain the same as the original movie with some added ensemble scenes, new song arrangements and unique song selections that the cast has been working hard to perfect.

Amy Beane, the founder of BeanStalk Community Theatre, serves as the director of the play.

Most of the cast grew up during the release of “High School Musical,” which is why it is so near and dear to the hearts of the actors. The main characters Troy and Gabriella are played by Spencer Ball and Arwen Taylor.

Tickets purchased in advance are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for children through high school. They can be purchased at www.showtix4u.com. There will also be tickets for sale at the door for $16, but all seating is reserved so don’t wait until the last minute to get yours!

Watauga High School’s Ross Auditorium is located at 300 Go Pioneers Dr, Boone, NC 28607.
