Thousands Expected To Attend Women’s March on Washington, Including Bus Full of Locals

Event+DetailsAn estimated 200,000 women, including a bus full of locals, are expected to attend the Women’s March on Washington during the weekend of the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.

The protest rally begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 and ends at 1:15 p.m.

The starting point of the rally will be at the intersection of Independence Avenue and Third Street, Washington D.C., near the U.S. Capitol. The rally will feature nationally known advocates, artists, entertainers, entrepreneurs and other leaders, according to the Women’s March on Washington website.

Kaye Barley of Boone is among the locals taking the sold-out Boone bus to Washington D.C on Saturday. Other organized locations in North Carolina with offered trips include Asheville, Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, Raleigh, Wilmington and Winston-Salem.

While Hillary Clinton wasn’t Barley’s first choice for the presidency during this election cycle, Barley said she “wouldn’t feel scared” if Clinton was the candidate being inaugurated in a few days.

“Donald Trump is crazy and dangerous. I don’t see him lasting four years without being removed in a straightjacket. That is not far fetched as far as I am concerned,” Barley said.

Sister marches are also taking place across the state.
