May 19, 2014. On Saturday, May 17, the Spring Mountaineer Mud Run took place at the High Country Fairgrounds.

The event drew more than 200 participants despite the damp, cold weather.

“The Mud Run went great!” said Kenny Johnson, who organized the event. “It was a little cold, but other than that we just rolled with the punches.”

The event usually features a river crossing as part of the course, but due to heavy rains the week before the race, that part of the course had to be cut out.

“We usually go across the river, but it was pretty high,” Johnson said. “Even though it was going down, we just didn’t want to chance it.

The results of the Mud Run competition have already been released. The top 20 finishers of the mud run were as follows:

  • Shields
  • Brent Harrison
  • Ian Winek
  • Austin Zander
  • Brian Whitfield
  • Alex Henigin
  • William Brower
  • Iam Combest
  • Alex Blackburn
  • Jenna Calamai
  • Joe Fagan
  • Rachel Capen
  • Mike Ferraro
  • Duane Henigin
  • Woody McKay

As with all of the High Country Mud Run events, this event has a nonprofit component as well. Kiwanis of Boone will be given a portion of the proceeds in exchange for their volunteerism at the event.

Johnson would like to thank all of the sponsors, volunteers and people who helped to make this event possible.
