Aug. 13, 2012.The Perseid meteor shower, which stems from particles ejected from the comet Swift-Tuttle travelling its 130-year orbit, peaked Saturday night, although it was visible on Friday and Sunday nights as well. Local photographer Todd Bush was able to capture this spectacular shot during the shower.

“After enjoying the meteor shower and Milky Way all night, a little before dawn, as the moon began to rise amidst Venus, Jupiter and the Pleiades, a whopper of a meteor, by far the brightest I saw over the last several nights of watching, rocked the sky,” said Bush.

This image was taken in Banner Elk looking toward Boone. Bush said of his photos, “These were individual frames from a couple of 700 frame time lapse attempts made with eight millimeter on a Nikon D-5000 and 10 millimeter on a D-5100.” Click here to see more.
