The Buck Haggard Band and The Buck Stops Here Featured at the Jones House for First Friday Concert

The Buck Stops Here 2

July 8, 2014. The Buck Haggard Band and The Buck Stops Here will perform at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center on Friday starting at 5 p.m. for a free concert featuring classic country and traditional string band roots sounds to the “First Friday” festivities in downtown Boone.

The Buck Haggard Band will begin at 5 p.m. featuring band leader, singer and acoustic guitar player George Wilson who started the band when he realized the lack of local and regional groups performing classic country material, let alone any radio play. Wilson gathered a group of talented, veteran musicians and the band has been the region’s premier classic country band ever since with Ed Main on lead guitar and keyboards, Jimmy Cannon on steel guitar, Tracy Brown on bass and Greg Russell o Drums.

“These guys are real pros,” said concerts organizer Mark Freed. “They have a terrific repertoire of country gems, they do it well, and they have a lot of fun while they’re at it.”

The Buck Stops Here is a newly formed old-time string band featuring four talented young women swapping fiddles, banjos, guitar, mandolins and more along with the brother of one playing bass. While the group is newly formed, the individuals have been playing and performing for several years and the group is quickly drawing attention and gigs. They will be playing earlier that day at the MusicFest N Sugar Grove and later that night at Espresso News and in the morning at the Watauga County Farmers’ Market. The group includes Gailanne Amundsen, formerly of Jubal’s Kin, Julie Chiles, Rebecca Jones, Shona Carr and Jeffrey Amundsen.

The Buck Stops Here will perform from 6:30-8 p.m. during the downtown Art Crawl celebration at the Jones House featuring new exhibits by Jody Bargerstock, Bob Reneau and Tori Allen.

The performances are part of the Summer Concerts at the Jones House series, featuring weekly concerts in downtown Boon every Friday June through September. The series is produced by the Town of Boone’s Cultural Resources Department with support from season sponsors including the Downtown Boone Development Association, Footsloggers, Mast General Store, Farmers Rental and Power, MPrints, StickBoy Bread Company and Melanie’s.
