July 19, 2012. Staff with Boone Public Works started renovations on the outside of the soon-to-be Doc Watson Appalachian Theatre Wednesday evening. This morning workers, standing on scaffolding with two-by-fours in hand, were constructing the beginnings of the theater marquee.
“We’re just cleaning up some of the rough looking brick,” one of the three workers said on Thursday morning. “Just making it look nice. Maybe they can get some donations for the future theatre.”
On Friday at 9:00 a.m., the Jones House Community Center hosts a special meeting with the Downtown Boone Development Association and the Appalachian Theater Committee to discuss the future of the theater and identify the next steps to be taken regarding a new nonprofit entity that will take complete possession of the theater, managing rehabilitation, restoration and operation of the Doc Watson Appalachian Theater.
