The August Installment of the Greater Avery Tour de Art Features Thirteen Studios and Galleries Saturday, Aug 24

Aug. 22, 2013. In the spirit of artistic cooperation and inclusiveness, the Greater Avery Tour de Art extends to parts of Western Watauga County – namely Valle Crucis, Southern Boone, Foscoe and the Grandfather Community. The Tour is in its fifth year and consists of open houses at 13 High Country galleries and artist studios. It returns this Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on the fourth Saturday of subsequent months through November.

Free tour maps are available at participating galleries and studios, and at selected locations throughout the High Country. The sojourner can expect a lovely late summer amble down and around scenic byways, especially lush from summer rains. Look for a bright yellow “Tour de Art” sign to guide to you each studio or gallery. The tour highlights the best of High Country artistry. It’s free, it’s eclectic and its open to the public. 

From Linville Falls to Banner Elk to Boone to Valle Crucis and everywhere in between, the 13 galleries and studios participating in this years Tour de Art are:

Anvil Arts Studio: A gallery and sculpture garden featuring interior and exterior sculptures, sculptural lighting and accessories by sculptor Bill Brown. IMG_20130728_205223Crossnore Fine Arts Gallery: Crossnore represents regional painters, sculptors and fine crafters. Proceeds from this gallery support the Crossnore School’s “Stepping Stones” program. This gallery is located at 205 Johnson Lane on the Crossnore School Campus. Linville River Pottery: Stoneware and porcelain teapots, vases, mugs and bowls handmade on a kickwheel by Patti Connor-Greene. Also featured are colorful fabric wall hangings and art quilts by Virginia McKinney Greene. This gallery is located at 2180 Goose Hollow Road in Pineola. Pam Brewer Studio: This studio features sculptural and functional ceramics by Pam Brewer, Lucy Hamilton and Tim Turner. Pam will be demonstrating mosaic work this month as she mosaics the wall outside her studio. The studio is located at 41 Redbird Lane in Newland. For more information, please call 828-733-5755.

Linville Arts District: This district includes 87 Ruffin Street Folk Art Gallery, The Old Hampton Store and a group of resident artists. Art Cellar Gallery: This gallery features original painting and sculpture by local and southeastern artists. Artist Robert Eoff will share techniques and inspirations in a coffee talk with visitors from 10 a.m. to noon. Carlton Gallery: This gallery features fine art and contemporary crafts in all media by local, regional and nation artists, and includes solo exhibitions and artist workshops. Alta Vista Gallery: Celebrating their 23rd year on the National Register of Historic Places, Alta Vista features works in all media by over 200 artists.
