by Madison Fisler Lewis

Aug. 28, 2014. On Saturday, Aug. 30, from 10 a.m. until noon, The Art Cellar Gallery in Banner Elk will host the last of many coffee talks of the summer season. This Saturday’s coffee talk will feature noted painter Zoey Brookshire.

54727be3-a5ca-4b66-9562-5de3722c8c83The talks are kept very casual, with small, relaxed groups of patrons who are free to explore the gallery. Refreshments are offered to all guests and those in attendance will get a great opportunity to meet artists and discuss their art with them first hand.

Zoey Brookshire is a highly accomplished artist who works in many mediums and sizes from large, rich canvases filled with color to works of ink on paper. With gesture and strong line, the artist is able to capture the essence of her intent, often with minimal line, she leaves paper or canvas filled with the artist’s voice. From figurative subjects to non-representational work, the artist’s lifetime of dedication to her art is evident. Come enjoy a rich, art-filled morning and learn more about this talented artist.

“This is an opportunity for people to meet artists and learn about mediums that they may not be familiar with,” said Liz Brown, Gallery Director of The Art Cellar. “Everyone who has come so far has been really excited to meet the artists and get insight into the artistic life and process. I encourage people to come out for that opportunity.”

The Coffee Talks have been massively successful, drawing a good crowd each week.

“The artists just love it,” Brown said. “They are all really thrilled with it. It is good for them to meet their collectors and their fans, and it is great exposure for the artist. The reason we did these this year is because we did two last year and they were just so popular. We decided to do them every Saturday during the summer months, it gives artists more visibility and we wanted to give people more opportunities to meet great artists.”

Current exhibitions in the gallery include Howard Campbell and the Art of Woodrow Hill, which will be on display from Aug. 27-Sept. 27. An exhibition and book release celebration will be held on Friday, Sept. 5, from 4-6 p.m.

Upcoming exhibitions at The Art Cellar include Animals of Farm and Field, which will be on display from Sept. 17 through Oct. 17. The opening reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 4-6 p.m.
