‘The 39 Steps’ Opens July 17 and is a Visually Engaging and Comedic Play, Shines with a Small Cast of Four

July 17, 2013. Starting July 17, residents of the the High Country can enjoy John Buchan’s “The 39 Steps” at Hayes Auditorium in Banner Elk.

39-Steps-small-COLORThe performance is an active play for those of all ages. “The 39 Steps” tells the story of a man who meets a mysterious woman and after she is murdered, a strange organization is hot on his trail to find him.

“It’s loosely based on Alfred Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps”,” said Janet Speer, director of the production. “So loosely, that you’ll laugh from beginning to end.”

The slapstick comedy is part of Lees McRae Summer Theatre, is directed by Speer and holds a cast of four top-notch actors and actresses. Audience members will never tire of the impressive way cast and crew adapt to make things work with a small cast. “The 39 Steps” is engaging visually, with rapidly changing costumes and actors.

The production runs July 17, 18, 18, 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. and July 20 and 21 at 2 p.m.
