By Madison Fisler Lewis

Oct. 7, 2014. The 20th annual Todd New River Festival, presented by the Todd Ruritan Club, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11. The beloved fall festival features crafts, food, music and more for the entire family to enjoy.

This decades-old festival has something for everyone, and is held on the banks of the beautiful New River in Todd at the Walter and Annie Cook Memorial Park from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This year, thousands are expected to attend what has become one of the most highly anticipated boutique festivals in the area.

This event features a great schedule of live music, including local favorites like Creekside Grass, Carolina Crossing and many more.

The complete music lineup is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. – A Company of Cloggers
  • 10 a.m. – Norris Family
  • 11 a.m. – Creekside Grass
  • 12 p.m. – Key to Todd Presentation
  • 12 p.m. – Carolina Crossing
  • 1 p.m. – Upright and Breathing
  • 2 p.m. – Danny Hodges
  • 3 p.m. – Dan Mosely Band
  • 4 p.m. – Aubrey Spurlock and Friends

But the festival is much more than just live music. Attendees to the festival will also enjoy raffle drawings, face painting, children’s imgres-169activities for kids of all ages and great food selections.

“We will have some of the best barbecue in western North Carolina,” said Barry Stevens, board chairman of the Todd Ruritan Club.

“We will have all the fixings too. We will also have hamburgers and hot dogs.”

The raffle will include prizes like a handmade hardwood table, a chainsaw, firewood and more. Raffle tickets are six for $5 or $1 each. You do not have to be present at the event to win the raffle prizes.

In addition to all the festival activities, the Todd Ruritan Club will award one lucky recipient with the Key to Todd.

“We usually keep the recipient a secret until we give the award,” Stevens said. “It goes to someone that has lived most of their lives here and supported the community. I will be presenting it around lunchtime.”

For the kids, a play area will be available near the creek along with face painting, pumpkin carving and plenty of other fall festival activities.

Admission to the festival is completely free of charge. The cost for parking is $5 per car, which covers the shuttle that takes guests from the parking lot to the festival grounds.
