Tales of Mystery and Imagination Dinner Kicks Off Third Annual High Country Fetsival of the Book

May 28, 2014. The third annual High Country Festival of the Book kicks off with a dinner and program featuring bestselling author Lynn Cullen, whose historical novel “Mrs. Poe” was inspired by literature’s most haunting love triangle.

imgresThe Fall of the House of Usher, The Put and the Pendulum and The Tell Tale Heart are but a few of the stories that were published in the Edgar Allan Poe Classic, “Tales of Mystery and Imagination.” We think we know Poe from these shivery yarns but do we really? Cullen’ss historical novel explores a different side of Edgar through his relationship with author and poet Frances Osgood. Cullen will be joined by the haunted poet himself and other haunting surprises on Friday, June 27 at the Fairway Grill on the Boone Golf Course from 6-9 p.m.

Lynn Cullen is the author of “The Creation of Eve,” named among the best fiction books of 2010 by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and as an April 2010 Indie Next Selection. She is also the author of numerous award-winning books for children including the young adult novel “I am Rembrandt’s Daughter,” which was a 2007 Barnes & Noble “Discover Great Writers” selection, and an American Library Association Best Book of 2008. Her previous novel, “Reign of Madness,” is about Juana the Mad, daughter of the Spanish monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

The Tales of Mystery and Imagination is co-sponsored by the Richard T. Barker Friends of the Belk Library (ASU). Tickets are $60 for dinner and a copy of “Mrs. Poe” or $50 for dinner only. A portion of this is tax-deductible. There is a choice of entrees and a cash bar will be available. Advance tickets are available online at www.HighCountryFestivalOfTheBook.com or by check or cash at the Watauga County Public Library and the Western Watauga Branch Library.

The High Country Fetsival of the Book on June 28 will be held on the grounds of the Library and at the Jones House. The High Country Fetsival of the Book and associated author events are organized by the Friends of the Watauga County Public Library to draw attention to the importance of books, reading and literacy. There will be authors and books for all ages and a variety of interests. This year’s event will include music, food, vendors, children’s activities and a free book for every child who attends.
