Take Your Love to New Heights with a High Country Valentine’s Day; Check Out Great Local Events

Feb. 12, 2015. This weekend is Valentine’s Weekend, and along with the fancy dinners, candy and other romantic gestures, why not take your sweetheart out on an adventure this Valentine’s Day? The High Country has plenty of activities and events, many taking place all weekend long. We’ve done the work for you and compiled a list of the Valentine’s Day-themed happenings this weekend, so you don’t have to.

Boone

snowvalentineIf you would like your Valentine’s Day to be a bit more musical than most, you’re in luck. On Friday, Feb. 13, you can treat yourself and your sweetheart to the jazz stylings of Todd Wright and Friends at Appalachian State University. The annual concert will be held at Rosen Concert Hall starting at 8 p.m. Admission to the concert is free of charge.

Blowing Rock

Downtown Blowing Rock will host a Valentine’s Stroll Feb. 13-15, where local merchants will allow visitors to shop, enjoy refreshments and gather with friends to celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend. The shops will offer giveaways, special offers and much more with no admission or entry fee. Participating shops include: neaco, Almost Rodeo Drive, J.W. Tweeds, Gilded Lily by Patra, Finley House Couture, Monkee’s of Blowing Rock, Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, 100 W. Union, Gregory Alan’s, The Boutique Collection by Carriage Trade, Blowing Rock Furniture Gallery, Carriage Trade Antiques, 3rd Space Coffee Bar, TazMaraz, Cabin Fever, Spice and Tea Exchange of Blowing Rock, Traditions Pottery, Christopher’s Wine and Cheese, Unwound Yarns, Tervis and Rustic.

Sugar Mountain Resort

Sugar Mountain Resort will host The Johnson Brothers on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 4-6 p.m. The band, local to Linville, will play classic rock and oldies from the 70s through today. For more information, click here.

Appalachian Ski Mtn. will host a Valentine’s Family Day Weekend Feb. 13-16. The weekend will offer special deals, special hours, fireworks and more. Check out the complete schedule of events below:

Friday, Feb. 13

  • Dragon Go Big or Go Home Park Session (7 p.m.)

Saturday, Feb. 14

  • Appalachian Ski Mtn. restaurant cookout (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.)
  • Midnight Blast session (5 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • Moonlight ice skating (7-9 p.m., 9:30 p.m.- midnight)
  • Midnight fireworks show

Sunday, Feb. 15

  • S’mores bonfire party (7-9 p.m.)

Monday, Feb. 16

  • 2-for-1 ski tickets special

Beech Mountain

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Archer’s Inn will host live music at the Vault Bar at Jackalope’s.

Beech Mountain Resort

Beech Mountain Resort will host the Apres Ski Music Series featuring Melissa Reeves on Friday, Feb. 13 in the Beech Mountain Brewing Co. starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 14, Radio Narks will provide the live music at the Beech Tree Bar and Grille starting at 5 p.m. along with a Jimmy Buffet cover band. Banner Elk

The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center will host a Valentine’s Day party on Saturday, Feb. 14. The event will feature marshmallow roasting, s’mores, live music and crafts for children from 1-3 p.m. The Welcome Center is located at 100 W. Main St. in Banner Elk.

Glendale Springs

Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre presents Spirit of Elvis Valentine’s Day Show on Feb. 14. Enjoy the “Love Me Tender” show starring Jimmy Johnson as Elvis. Enjoy a buffet dinner before the show.
