The Sun Belt Conference announced its 2017-18 men’s basketball schedule on Thursday. The conference will once again utilize an 18-game conference slate for each basketball program.

Men’s games this season will revert back to a Thursday-Saturday schedule in conjuncture with the women’s schedule to form doubleheaders throughout the 2017-18 season, which is similar to the 2015-16 conference campaign. Last season the men played a Saturday-Monday schedule in league play.

Both games that the Mountaineers play against Coastal Carolina are considered rivalry games and thus App State will have the Thursday prior to those games off as a bye.

For the first time since joining the Sun Belt, App State will open the conference season at home on Friday, Dec. 29 against Texas State before hosting UT Arlington on Sunday, Dec. 31. Both of these games are the exception to the rest of the schedule with the remaining conference games. Games beginning on Thursday could have resulted in student-athletes traveling on Christmas Day.

The Mountaineers’ first road trip will have the Black and Gold heading to Louisiana on Jan. 4 and UL Monroe on Jan. 6.

Appalachian’s home conference schedule is headlined by games against the regular season champion UTA (Dec. 31), Georgia State (Jan. 11), Georgia Southern (Jan. 13), defending tournament champion Troy (Feb. 17) and Coastal Carolina (March 3) which also concludes league play prior to the Sun Belt Tournament.

Tip times for all conference contests will be announced by each institution at a later date. The 2018 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament will take place at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans from March 6-11. It marks the fifth consecutive tournament held in New Orleans – the conference’s headquarters.

Appalachian State’s non-conference schedule will be released at a later date.
