‘Summer News’: Achievement Recognition of a Dozen Students From Watauga County Schools

Mabel students Kyle Hollars and Riley Underwood took first place in state level competition for Junior Beta Club members last spring and then won recognition n national competition in New Orleans in June.

Mabel students Kyle Hollars and Riley Underwood took first place in state level competition for Junior Beta Club members last spring and then won  recognition n national competition in New Orleans in June.  Kyle took third place in social studies and Riley was fourth in woodworking. Kyle is on the left and Riley is on the right in the attached photo. Both students are sixth graders at Mabel.

Nine Watauga High School students participated in the week long Watauga Camp Med sponsored by the Northwest AHEC (Area Health Education Center) of the Wake Forest School of Medicine and by Baptist Medical Center. The Watauga County Schools,  Appalachian Regional Medical Center, and Caldwell Community College are program partners in Camp Med.. The camp is for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.  It offers students presentations by medical professionals, tours and observations in medical settings, and clinical experiences.
