Summer Music Series in Todd

The Todd Community Preservation Organization is hosting its annual Summer Music Series again this year at the Walter and Anne Cook Park in Todd. Concerts begin at 6:00 p.m. and are free.

“Todd has a rich history of talented musicians coming together and performing for generations, and we are excited to host the free concert series every year,” said Helen Barnes-Rielly, TCPO President.  “Residents and visitors alike have enjoyed music in the park for a decade.”

Local favorites Amantha Mill and Melissa Reeves return to the Todd music series this summer, and bands from as far away as Ohio and Pennsylvania will also perform at Cook Park.

Talented, popular local band Amantha Mill returns to Cook Park this year on July 18.  Amantha Mill specializes in traditional bluegrass, swing, cowboy, country and Americana/roots music.  There’s something in each of their shows for all music lovers.

TCPO is also excited to announce that Barleyjuice is coming to Todd for the first time ever on Aug. 1st, but they are not strangers to the High Country having performed at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in years past.  One of the most beloved Celtic rock bands in the US, they have six studio albums and a double CD collection to their credit.  Members of the band have performed for Prince Charles, played for New York’s legendary Flailin’ Shilaleghs and produced the hit “Raised on the Radio” for the 1982 film Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Todd’s favorite band, The Tillers are back for their fifth year on Aug. 15.  In the summer of 2009, veteran NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw featured the band on a documentary about US Route 50 as a testament to the highway’s importance to the nation.  They have shared the stage with Doc Watson, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Guy Clark, Country Joe McDonald, the Carolina Chocolate Drops and many others.

Melissa Reaves performs on August 29.  She has been delighting audiences throughout the US for more than a decade with her rock, funk and rhythm & blues based sound.  In 2000 she was chosen to participate in “Women of the Millennium,” when she  toured in England and France and opened for Robert Plant of Led Zepplin.

Food from the grill, chips and soft drinks are available for purchase and all proceeds benefit the TCPO a non-profit whose mission is to develop Todd by sustainable means while preserving its   history, cultural heritage and natural resources.

Concerts are rain or shine.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket.  In case of rain, concerts will be held at the Todd Mercantile. For more information visit the TCPO website www.toddnc.org.
