Summer Music Continues on Beech Mountain with Local Artists at 5506′ Restaurant and Bar

What’s the best spot for live performances from local musicians in the High Country? It just might be 5506′ at Beech Mountain Resort.

Each Saturday, from 3:30-6:30 p.m., local artists will play live music at 5506′, the highest bar and restaurant in the area. With a great selection of food, drinks, and views, 5506′ is the perfect setting to spend the afternoon.

Here’s who you can expect to see there this month:

Aug. 8 – Mark Schimick

Mark Schimick, the nationally renown mandolin player for Larry Keel and Natural bridge, was born in Chicago, IL and grew up there and in Western North Carolina. Mark has been playing the mandolin for 15 years, and has rapidly become one of the most versatile and fiery pickers on the acoustic music scene. Moreover, he is an outstanding multi-instrumentalist and has a clear and powerful singing voice that can range from high-lonesome, to Beatles-esque, to Motown-tinged soul.”

Aug. 15 – Ryan Ward

Ryan Ward is a talented, eclectic singer/songwriter, with an endless passion for music. Today, Ryan has incorporated many styles fro artists that range from Lindsey Buckingham, Stephen Stills, to Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. Ward started writing songs at the age of 17, but focused more on stylistically solving puzzles with the guitar. Currently, Ward is focused on relaying his message through the vibrations of strings and lyric content.

Aug. 22 – The Shane Pruitt Band

Living and breathing the blues and gospel, The Shane Pruitt Band embodies a regional tradition while bringing its original tone and flare to every performance. Finding itself ever-searching in musical traditions between Delta Blues, Gospel, and Southern Rock, The Shane Pruitt Band embraces in the Jam Band traditions of improvisation and an ever-evolving musical experience. Picking up momentum with every performance.

Aug. 28 – Wise Old River

Wise Old River blends a variety of influences and instruments that combine tradition with originality. The group features vocalist/guitarist Jamen Denton. Jeanne Denton provides well-crafted harmony vocals and occasional percussion. Jim Denton adds acoustic lap steel, 12 string slide guitar, and bouzouki. Bassist Stephen Marshall joined the band in fall 2010 and plays with an Americana focus bridging musical styles with his honest sound and harmonic vibe. Their sound has been described as ‘Eclectic-Americana.’
