SugarFest 2012 Opening Tonight Featuring Ice-Skating Performance by Olympic Silver-Medalist Paul Wylie

Dec. 14, 2012. The highly anticipated annual SugarFest will kick off tonight at Sugar Mountain. 

Festivities will begin tonight with an ice-skating performance by Olympic silver-medalist Paul Wylie  and friends for patrons to watch.

imgres-2“At the performance tonight it will be really exciting to have a silver-medalist here at Sugar Mountain,” said Kim Jochl of Sugar Mountain. “Its inspiring to see someone who got to the top of his profession. He will probably bring the silver medal with him so that should be a fun interaction.”

During the evening’s skate show on Sugar’s 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor ice rink, delight in the beginning of the three-day SugarFEAST. To keep you warm and well-hydrated a hot chocolate and whip cream bar will flow creamy, smooth chocolate pleasures.

Saturday’s activities begin at 9 a.m. with consumer demonstrations on the slopes until around 4:00 p.m. Participating brands include Salomon, Volkl, Nordica, Burton, Head, Never Summer, Atomic, Dynastar, Rossignol, Ride and Line. Bring your boots, register, and test drive the ‘good stuff’. The SugarFest demo is brought to you by Ski Country Sports.

Ice skating will also be open at regular session times, at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. There will also be a Soup Safari inside the cafeteria for guests to have lunch and warm up.

Live bluegrass music from SugarFest’s favorite local music group, BOSS HAWG delivers a footstompin’ good time. The Last Run Lounge will feature SugarBrew’s award winning “best in show” Southern Tier, Choklat, Porter brewed in Lakewood, NY. Of course, a good ole German beer, Spaten will be on tap among others. No shortage of beverage selection here, as well as barbeque and sweet tea in the cafeteria for dinner starting at 5 p.m.

At 5:45, there will be a life fireworks show for patrons to enjoy.

On Sunday, demos will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Ice skating will also be held at regular session times, as well as the Rail Jam for skiers and snowboarders. Registration for Rail Jam starts at ten for those who are not reregistered. Come out and watch or throw down with some of the area’s most daring and creative riders and skiers as they deliver thrilling entertainment during the Rail Jam. Over $4,500 in cash, prizes and giveaways, courtesy of Alpine Ski Center, RIDE Snowboards, Salomon, Burton, Scott, Oakley, 686, One Ball Jay, The North Face, Dalbello and Dakine. Be sure to preregister at any Alpine Ski Center throughout the Southeast.
