As June passes and the month of July approaches, events throughout the High Country abound with fun-filled activities for the whole family. One of these events is the Sugar Mountain Resort Summit Crawl and Classic Car Cruise-In.
On Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m. Sugar Mountain Resort will be hosting the first annual Summit Crawl and Classic Car Cruise-In for people of all ages! It’s a fun and competitive (if desired) race by foot up to Sugar Mountain’s 5,300’ peak by way of the Easy Street, Gunther’s Way and Northridge slopes.
“The hike up the mountain is 1.2 miles in distance,” Kim Jochl, Vice-President and Director of Marketing and Merchandising for Sugar Mountain Resort, said. “It’s a really nice hike up the mountain, and once you’re at the top, you just take the ski lift down.”
Of course, the race is just for fun, but you can be timed and there will be prizes.
“We are just wanting to make a fun event with awards,” Jochl said. “So, we will have, for example, female top ten and male top ten. It’s just a friendly competition.”
The awards are as follows:
-Top 10 Male
-Top 10 Female
-Top 5 Male 70+
-Top 5 Female 70+
-Top 5 Male 12 and Under
-Top 5 Female 12 and Under
Not only will there be awards at the end of the race at approximately 2 p.m. on the Main Deck, but according to Jochl, there will also be water stations and first aid stations sponsored by Lowes Foods at the summit.
The entry fee for the race is $40 for adults (13 and older) and $30 for kids (12 and under). The entry fee includes a t-shirt and the one-way ski lift ride down the mountain once you finish the race. Once you reach the base of the mountain, you will be greeted with lots of festivities, including food, beer and live music by Mountain Creek from 11-2 p.m. There will also be the Classic Car Cruise-In awaiting you.
The Classic Car Cruise-In is a free event. Those who own a car or truck that is 25 years or older may participate; you can cruise into the resort with the classic car or truck and park it in the parking area before 9 a.m. on July 1. Come on out and show off your beautiful treasure!
“We suggest that you RSVP if you’re wanting to participate in the Cruise-In,” Jochl said. “Let us know what you’re bringing, so that we can talk about it.”
Registration for the Summit Crawl will be available until the day before the event. No event day registration will be available, so be sure that you register as soon as possible. The first 140 entries will receive Merrell swag!
“We are always wanting to find activities, something different, to do during the summer at Sugar Mountain,” Jochl said. “This is great for exercise, something new and an opportunity to have a lot of fun with families and friends.”
Not only this, but Jochl stated that climbing to the peak of Sugar Mountain will fill everyone who participates with a sense of grand accomplishment.
Because Sugar Mountain is so conducive for large, outdoor fun, it’s the perfect place for this kind of event, and residents and visitors alike will have a blast hiking the 6,500 feet to the peak!
