Student Return to On-Campus Living This Weekend, Classes Resume Monday at ASU

Noticed a lot of traffic in Boone lately? The increase in the number of folks in town this week is likely due to the return of students to Appalachian State University.

Summer break is coming to an end for the thousands of students, faculty, staff and administrators who return to full-time schedules on campus next week.

With the help of parents, friends, family members, roommates and volunteers, new and returning students are moving back to campus this weekend and will have a few days to get settled in before classes resume on Monday.

A recent release from the university explains that 3,050 freshmen are expected to move in to campus residence halls over the weekend in addition to returning students who live on campus.

The same release explains that a total of 1,170 new transfer students are expected on campus. An addition of 460 new graduate students will make a total of approximately 1,000 graduate students, reversing a five-year trend of decline in graduate enrollment.

Also, according to the release, distance education enrollment is expected to total 1,383. Of those, 733 will be off-campus graduate students and 650 will be undergrads.
