Storytelling News: Storytelling Workshop Weekend at Artspace (Shops at Shadowline), Nov 17-19

There will be a storytelling workshop at Artspace,  home of the Watauga County Arts Council, on November 17-19.  Artspace is located at 377 Shadowline Drive. The workshop begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, with the worskop weekend concluding at 5:00 p.m.   It will be taught by Dianne Hackworth,  who holds a Master’s Degree in Storytelling and has been telling stories and teaching storytelling workshops for over 25 years.    There are still spaces open at this workshop.   The total cost for the weekend is $100, $85 for seniors.   Please contact Cherry Johnson at 264 1789 if you wish to attend.   Space is limited so register now.   A $30 deposit is needed now. 

TELLABRATION IN BOONE

The local annual worldwide celebration of storytelling will be held from 7-9pm on Friday 17 November at Artspace.   This part of the weekend storytelling workshop will be free and open to the public.   There will be four storytellers:  Dianne Hackworth from Tennessee, who has told stories to all ages over a wide area for over 25 years and will be teaching the weekend workshop.

ReVonda Crow a native of NC, who came to the Blue Ridge Mountains to study history and anthropology… and stayed, almost 30 years. ReVonda brings excitement to her tales of Brer Rabbit, The Jack Tales, NC legends, and spooky stories. She has told in many venues including the Sneem Storytelling and Folk Festival in Sneem, Ireland.

Fred Powers who is a retired schoolteacher from West Virginia who worked as an underground coal miner for twenty years before training as a teacher.   Fred brings vividly to life the experiences of coal miners through stories of his own life.

Mary Gray who now lives in Boone but is originally from Wales.   Mary has been telling stories since the mid 80s.   She has worked in Lesotho, Uganda, Cameroon, Denmark and Canada and shares stories from around the world.
