May 1, 2013. Stone Soup III: Essential Tools for Today’s Nonprofits, a day-long conference designed for nonprofit directors, staff, board members, volunteers and other leaders, will be held Tuesday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Appalachian State University’s Plemmons Student Union. The public is invited to attend.
The event is sponsored by the university’s Appalachian and the Community Together (ACT) program in collaboration with a number of High Country nonprofit organizations.

Professional fundraising coach and consultant Sandy Rees will be the keynote speaker and will lead multiple workshops. Her passion is showing small nonprofit organizations how to raise more money, strengthen their boards and build relationships with donors.
Nonprofit legal specialist Dianne Chipps Bailey will deliver workshops related to nonprofit compliance and other legal issues facing nonprofits.

“As a member of the planning committee, I like to create sessions that I would want to attend and that cover timely issues for non-profits right now. We have a dynamo speaker on fundraising and a special session on legal compliance that goes beyond what nonprofits normally think about,” said Jennifer Grubb, executive director of Western Youth Network, a relationship-focused resource for youth and families.
“Also, the networking opportunity is huge. It’s a great time to talk about how non-profit organizations can share resources, collaborate and work together more strategically,” Grubb said.
