St. Mary of the Hills Centennial Ice Cream Social and Choir Concert, Next Saturday, August 18

This year the choir will perform at 5:30, after the ice cream social, with the theme ‘Ave Maria: Embracing the Archetypal Feminine.’

St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock, NC will host an ice cream social on the front lawn of the church on Saturday, August 18, from 2:30 to 5:00, and everyone is welcome!

Costumed historians from 100 years ago will be speaking informally to all those who want to learn more about the church.
The event is part of the centennial celebration to commemorate the laying of the church building cornerstone on Sept 26th, 1918. All are invited to attend the free event which, in addition to ice cream and baked goods, will include costumed historians from 100 years ago speaking informally to all those who want to learn more about the church.  The event is a way of thanking the community for 100 years of life-affirming love and friendship.

Traditionally the Feast of Saint Mary (August 18th this year) has been a great celebration at the church to honor its patron saint and includes a reunion of former and current members of the St. Mary’s choir for a grand concert. This year the choir will perform at 5:30, after the ice cream social, with the theme ‘Ave Maria: Embracing the Archetypal Feminine’, and will premiere a new hymn commissioned in honor of St. Mary of the Hills in this centennial year. The congregation will sing the hymn the next day at the 10:10 Sunday service.

Ice cream for the event has been generously donated by Kilwin’s of Blowing Rock, with homemade baked goods provided by members of the church.  For more information, please call the church office at (828) 295-7323, or follow us on Facebook @ StMaryoftheHills.  The church is located at the corner of Main and Chestnut in the village of Blowing Rock.
