April 22, 2014. Watauga County Relay for Life will get a big boost this spring with the 2014 Spring Thaw 5K Road Race on Saturday, April 26. Sponsored by local team, Jerry’s Intimidators, the 5K will be raising money to benefit Watauga County Relay for Life’s fight to find a cure for cancer.
Jerry’s Intimidators was formed in honor of Jerry Younce who tragically passed away from colon cancer in 1997. In his memory, the team is just one of the many teams involved in Watauga County Relay for Life that works throughout the year to raise money for cancer awareness and research. Jerry’s Intimidators is joined by local area businesses to sponsor the race.
The race will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Greenway Trail in Boone. Beginning at the Burley-Clawson Park across from the National Guard Armory, runners will run or walk to the end of the trail and back, completing a 5K loop.
Registration is $20 per participant, with a family rate available to immediate family members living in the same household. All entries must be mailed together and completely filled out. Participants will receive a 5K commemorative t-shirt.
Cash awards will be given to overall winners in male and female categories, the overall masters winner for men and women over 40, and medals will be awarded to age group winners for the top male and female in the following age groups:
