Traffic May Be Light in Town with ASU Students on Spring Break Through March 14

By Jessica Isaacs

Traffic may be a little light in town and some parking lots empty next week as students at Appalachian State University leave campus and head home, or on vacation, for spring break.

Snow has been falling off and on around the High Country, and cold weather continues to linger in this late-arriving winter season. Some of us are enjoying the cool temperatures while they last, and others are anxiously awaiting the sunshine that spring will bring in the coming months.

Many of the nearly 18,000 students at App State will be heading out of town starting Monday to enjoy a weeklong, campus-wide break, some taking advantage of off-the-mountain temperatures and getting a head start on warm-weather fun.

Friday, March 4 marks the end of the first half of the spring 2016 semester, which ends with exams for half-semester courses.

Spring break officially begins on Monday, March 7, and students will enjoy a break for the remainder of that week. They will return on Monday, March 14, which will mark the beginning of the second half of the semester.

Easter falls on Sunday, March 27 this year, so students will have another break Monday and Tuesday following the holiday, March 28-29.
